Derek Burrows is an internationally known storyteller and musician. He was born and raised in The Bahamas and now lives in Boston. He has been a member of the group Voice of the Turtle for over twenty years and has performed throughout the United States and Europe. As a storyteller, one of his recent performances took place at the White House. He is one of two guests this season that has appeared on Guess Who’s Cooking for two episodes.



Soak the raisins. Boil the water and add it to the Oats. Add Milk to a bowl and let both the Milk and the Water with the Oats cool a little. Add the Sugar and the Yeast to the Milk and let that mixture sit for six to seven minutes. Get out you main mixing bowl and add the Yeast mixture and the Oats to this bowl. Add the Flours, Molasses, Salt and mix. Add the Raisins and Walnuts and continue mixing. Kneed the dough and then cut it into loaves. Cover the top of the loaves with Egg and let the loaves rise. Bake loaves at 350 degrees for approximately half an hour.

3/4 cup milk
2 cups oats
2 1/2 cups water
1 tbsp sugar
2 packets yeast
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup rye flour
5 to 6 cups white flour
3/4 cup molasses
1 tbsp salt
3/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 egg
