June 27 - June 30
Friday - Day FourWe decided to try yet another mall today. Our goal was to develop photographs and then scan them at Kinko's so that we could bring these pages up to date, photographs included. So we set off earlier than ever, and arrived at the mall shortly after its opening. We dropped film off at a photographic shop, examined more digital cameras, and then wandered around after eating breakfast in the mall. Discovering a bank nearby, we set off to buy a money order so that we could pay for the parking ticket we got in Los Angeles (remember that one?) before our car can get put into the System. We also wanted to cash a traveller's cheque (American Express - we don't leave home without them). We were successful in the last endeavour, but were informed by the very friendly tellers that it would cost us $5 to buy a money order at the bank, and that there were far cheaper places to buy them - food stores, for example. So we followed their advice, and took their direction, and decided to go somewhere else for the money order. We collected the pictures, went to Kinko's, and spent two hours on a G3 with a huge screen, scanning photos and converting them to web quality. We picked up the money order, posted off the parking fine, and returned to the house. Stephen was home when we arrived. Philip took a nap not long after we returned, and I spent a couple of hours deep in conversation with Stephen, catching up on old times. Later, we ordered dinner from the Outback Steakhouse - a place serving good red meat with an Australian theme (I am sure it is not as authentic as it believes itself to be), and settled in to watch Dogma on video - a very interesting movie. More clothes went in the washer, and now it's time to pack up and get ready to leave early tomorrow morning. It's been good to spend this time with Stephen! |
